Create A Change Now Announces Interactive Nutrition Education Lessons to be Introduced to Support Clark County School District

LAS VEGAS – Create A Change Now, a local non-profit teaching at-risk students to plant, grow and cook fresh, healthy meals in order to prevent childhood obesity, partners with Clark County School District (CCSD) to develop interactive nutrition education lessons and materials made available to teachers throughout the district in support of Nevada Academic Content Standards in various subjects such as health and science starting in the fall of the 2016 school year.

Molly Michelman, MS, RDN, LD (registered dietitian and co-owner of The Food Connection), and faculty member of UNLV’s Nutrition Science program will develop exciting and interactive nutrition education-based lessons for K-5 students. The supplemental lessons will feature topics such as growing strong and healthy bodies, eating for energy, reading food labels to understand what is beneficial or potentially harmful, packing produce into meals and snacks that CCSD teachers can use to help and assist in implementing the curriculum. Michelman and select CCSD teachers will work in collaboration to provide insights to ensure lessons are age-appropriate, and will support Nevada Academic Content Standards and CCSD curriculum.

“By supporting the development of school learning gardens and by creating supplemental lessons about growing and preparing food grown in those gardens, Create a Change Now is helping CCSD teachers to educate and promote health and well-being of students,” said Cheryl Wagner, coordinator, CCSD School-community partnership program. “School-community partnerships like this provide valuable resources for our schools.”
